Karen Backpack Drive: collection this weekend and next
Our annual backpack drive benefits Karen refugee families. Many of the Karen families are new arrivals to the U.S. and do not have the resources to purchase school supplies for their children. Our goal this year is to fill 300 backpacks! Please pick up a card at the Impact Table and fill a backpack. Filled backpacks may be returned to Five Oaks this weekend and next. The Karen VBS Team will deliver filled backpacks to the Karen refugees living in the Brittany Apartments the following week. Please contact Pam Hawley, phawley@fiveoakschurch.org, with questions.

Journeymen tobegin 3-week Andy Stanley study July 30
Men, join us Saturdays at 7 am beginning July 30 for Andy Stanley’s study called, “He’s Still* Got the Whole World in His Hands.” Questions we will examine: how do we find hope in a world that seems hopelessly broken? How do we continue to trust a God that seems conspicuously absent? These types of questions are not new -- in fact, many of the men and women of the Bible asked the same questions.  And like them, we are left to question God’s faithfulness, his presence, his concern. In this 3-part series we’re reminded that . . . He’s Still* Got the Whole World in His Hands. Doors open 6:30 am. Donations welcome to cover snacks. Questions? Email journeymen@fiveoakschurch.org.

Karen VBS family service opportunity
Looking for an opportunity to serve this summer?  We would love to have you be a part of the Karen VBS.  August 7-9,  6-7:30 pm. This is a great opportunity to serve as a family.  All ages are welcome.   It takes many volunteers to put this on.  We share a lesson, sing, have a craft, snack, and play games. We meet at the Brittany Apartments on Larpenteur. Contact Kristen Bryant for more information, bryantkristen@hotmail.com.

August book club
Join us for a discussion of “Mine is the Night” by Liz Curtis Higgs, August 9, 6:45 pm, in room 102. This story of redemption and restoration, set in eighteenth century Scotland, ties up the loose ends of the story of the Kerr sisters. Anyone is welcome to attend. Questions? Please contact Dawn Goenner, go.dmge@gmail.com.

Meet and pray for a family in China
In China, the institution of family is under great stress. A group of House Churches in China will be having a family retreat August 26-28 with about 50 families attending. Each family attending would like a family here to pray for them up to and during the retreat – and they would like to pray for you! If you would like to pray for one of these families, please email Kevin Johnson at kevindawn@comcast.net. You will receive detailed instructions on how to participate. Once families have been paired up, you will receive a picture of your family in China.
