NOTHING MOVES YOU CLOSER TO GOD THAN READING AND ENGAGING WITH THE BIBLE.
It's true, and we could list hundreds of real-life examples -- examples from people in our own church -- that would prove it. But you don’t need us to because you already know it’s true. We've heard this message for years in many cases: reading your Bible will grow your faith. Yet many skip it, saying it's too simple, or conversely, too intimidating.
We're not just talking about reading your Bible, but also engaging with it: exploring it, being challenged by it, and reflecting on its implications for your life.
That’s our goal with our weekend messages. We believe in sound, Biblically-based teaching that helps you not only grow closer to God, but also gives you the tools to go deeper on your own.
HOW DO I ENGAGE WITH GOD'S WORD?
Don’t overthink it.
Open your Bible (or Bible app) and read. Pace yourself, as it’s not about reading a lot, but instead about engaging with what you’re reading. Ask yourself some questions, such as:
- What does this mean?
- What does this tell me about who God is?
- How do I feel about what Scripture is saying here?
The aim is to digest what you’re reading so that God’s Word becomes rooted in you (and you in it).
If you’re looking for a more guided study, check out our DailyLife studies. Expressly written to coincide with our weekly sermon series, they’re a great way to incorporate God’s word into your everyday life.

VILLAGE SCHOOLS OF THE BIBLE
Five Oaks hosts the Cover-to-Cover Bible Survey Course each year through Village Schools of the Bible. In addition to Bible reading, students have weekly discussion and writing assignments that will help them understand God’s redemption and their part in his plan. This is a life-changing approach to Bible study – not simply an intellectual exercise -- and one that is appropriate both new Christians and longtime believers.
Check out our weekend sermons. They aren’t just tips for living a stronger Christian life, but instead are a deeper look at how we can live lives of greater response to God based on what we encounter in the Bible.
We offer a daily study called DailyLife that is based on our weekend sermons. It’s a resource that allows you to dig deeper into the scripture passages you’ll hear preached each weekend. Sign up to receive these in your inbox.
YouVersion is an online Bible app that syncs across all of your wifi devices. It’s a great way to stay in God’s Word no matter where you are. If you see someone on their phone or tablet during worship, there's a good chance this is what they’re using.
