Karen Backpack Drive starts next weekend
Our annual backpack drive benefits Karen refugee families. Many of the Karen families are new arrivals to the U.S. and do not have the resources to purchase school supplies for their children. Our goal this year is to fill 300 backpacks! Please pick up a card at the Impact Table this weekend and fill a backpack. Filled backpacks may be returned to Five Oaks July 23/24 and July 30/31. The Karen VBS Team will deliver filled backpacks to the Karen refugees living in the Brittany Apartments the following week. For more information contact Pam Hawley, phawley@fiveoakschurch.org.
Membership class this weekend
Membership is important at Five Oaks. It’s a way of saying, “I want to be part of the mission of this local church.” If you have a personal relationship with Christ and have completed Story of God (the class or in your small group), plan to attend the next membership class onJuly 17, 9:15-10:30 am, in room 101. Crafters! Share your gifts!
If you have a love of sewing, we need you! We have a current project for the Worship Center, and basic skills with a sewing machine are needed. High schoolers: don’t miss Cake Fight Lake Night
Yes, you read that right. Bring 3-4 cakes to share (toss?), a swimsuit, a towel, and your friends. We’ll go to Applebee’s for appetizers afterward. Wednesday, July 20, 7:30-9 pm, Carver Lake Beach.
Karen VBS family service opportunity
Looking for an opportunity to serve this summer? We would love to have you be a part of the Karen VBS. August 7-9, 6-7:30 pm. This is a great opportunity to serve as a family. All ages are welcome. It takes many volunteers to put this on. We share a lesson, sing, have a craft, snack, and play games. We meet at the Brittany Apartments on Larpenteur. Global Leadership Summit: registration closing soon
GLS is returning to Five Oaks again this August, but this year as a private site. GLS will look much the same inside our building as always, but we are not an advertised site for people outside our church family. Thurs. & Fri., August 11/12, 8:30 am-4:30 pm. Cost: $119. Lost and Found: please find what you lost
Since we last purged it in May, our Lost and Found is once again brimming. This time it’s loaded with winter and spring coats, both for kids and adults. Please check in at Guest Services if you have lost something recently. All unclaimed items will be donated July 31.
Meet and pray for a family in China
In China, the institution of family is under great stress. A group of House Churches in China will be having a family retreat August 26-28 with about 50 families attending. Each family attending would like a family here to pray for them up to and during the retreat – and they would like to pray for you! If you would like to pray for one of these families, please email Kevin Johnson at kevindawn@comcast.net. You will receive detailed instructions on how to participate. Once families have been paired up, you will receive a picture of your family in China.
