Weekend of June 15+16

Good clean fun: on Day 1 of VBS, kids made bricks to understand the Israelites’ plight under Pharoah

Good clean fun: on Day 1 of VBS, kids made bricks to understand the Israelites’ plight under Pharoah

Life is wild, but God is good!

This week at Vacation Bible School, 200+ kids experienced the love of Jesus through storytelling, games, crafts and skits. At “ROAR” VBS, kids explored God’s goodness and celebrated a ferocious faith that powers them through this wild life.

Kids also responded enthusiastically to our mission call to donate to World Vision, helping expectant moms and babies in Zambia get good nutrition. Their donations also go to the Finstad family, a family preparing to move their mission field to Senegal. Our VBS kids more than doubled their $1000 goal of donations to these two causes!

This weekend we celebrate all of these wins during worship services. The kids will sing a couple of their favorite songs from ROAR VBS, and we thank the 100+ volunteers who helped kids see Jesus in action at VBS!

Dads! (mumble mumble) Free ice cream! (mumble mumble)
Cool off before and after services with a treat (or three) from the MikMart ice cream truck in our parking lot this weekend. Better yet, all dads get a free treat in honor of Father’s Day! Yes, free. (Most dads love free stuff – most dads love ice cream – everyone wins!) Happy Father’s Day!

Want to join our mission? (membership)
Membership is important at Five Oaks. It’s a way of saying, “I want to be part of the mission of this local church.”  If you have a personal relationship with Christ and have completed Story of God (the class or in your small group), make plans to come to the next membership class on June 23, 9 am, in room 102. Please RSVP by emailing Pam Hawley at phawley@fiveoakschurch.org.

Students: Help impact people in need around our city
Ever wonder how you can help people in need throughout our city? Five Oaks Students and Union Gospel Mission are partnering on Wednesday, June 26 to assemble bags for you and your family to have in your car, ready to give to people in need. We’re collecting items over the next couple weeks: hygiene items, fast food gift cards, hats, gloves, warm socks, etc. Click here for the full list of needed items.

Bring on the fun this summer
Many of our small groups have more socials, BBQ’s and even boating or camping trips in the summer, so you can easily meet some new friends at these small group events. It’s a great time to meet some new people and enjoy the summer weather. Our small group leaders will let you know exactly what to expect for their socials, and they always know you might try another group or two before deciding. Interested in finding a group? Email Jonathan Haage, jhaage@fiveoakschurch.org, and Jonathan will help you start that process.

School’s out!  Need a lifeline yet?
As our rhythms change in summer, what are some ways to stay connected with God? Subscribe to our audio podcast on iTunes to stay current with our sermons, subscribe to our DailyLife emails for easy ways to connect with God every day, and download the Parent Cue app for God-centered advice to connect with our kids. For a full list of these resources, please click here to email Jonathan Haage.

We especially need help on Saturdays and the second Sunday service. We provide the curriculum and materials you need; you just show up and help those kids learn about Jesus! Email Kelly Bauman, kbauman@fiveoakschurch.org, with your availability.
