Weekend of May 9+10

Calling all the mom figures

Moms play an important role in our lives, from a hug and a kiss for a skinned knee, to plodding through math homework with their kids, to helping raise grandchildren, and everything in between. We know that the person you call “Mom” might be your mom, or she may be a stepmom, an aunt, a grandmother, a foster mom, or even a caring neighbor. This weekend, we honor all the mother figures in our church family. We thank you for all the ways you show up in a motherly role for the young people in your life who need you, Moms! We have a small gift in the commons today for all the ladies, and be sure to stop by our photo area and snap a picture of your family together.

Global 6K: Expand our impact by inviting others

You already know that the Global 6K on May 16 is about providing clean water to people around the world. It’s also about celebrating the many ways that God has blessed our community - including the beauty of SPRING after a long WINTER. This is the perfect kind of event to invite a friend, family member, neighbor, or colleague who is not so sure about church, but would love to get outside, help people in need around the world, and hang out with YOU! Please help us bless our world and community in a greater way by stepping out in courage and faith, and inviting the person(s) that God has put on your heart and mind. Between now and May 10, give the discount code 6KINVITE to anyone you invite. They’ll get $20 off each registration. All the details and registration here. Questions? Email impact@fiveoakschurch.org.

Want in on the Global 6K without the “6K” part?
As the Global 6K for Clean Water approaches on May 16, we need your help to make this event a success for both the communities across the world in need of clean water, and for all of the families who are participating in the event. We’re expecting lots of non-Five Oakers to walk, run, and stroll that day, some of whom have no idea how amazing the people of Five Oaks are. Let’s welcome all who show up that day! We’d love your help with set-up, tear-down, snack table, to name a few. Interested in helping out? (By the way, YES! You can volunteer to help AND walk or run the 6K!) Find more info at www.fiveoaks.church/global-6k

Adults: Share your story through baptism
Is your next step baptism? If you’re a follower of Jesus but haven’t been baptized yet, baptism provides an opportunity to share with others the story of what God has done in your life. Join our Adult Baptism Class on May 17, 9 am, to get your questions answered and learn how to frame your story. Register here. Questions? Email Jonathan Haage, jhaage@fiveoakschurch.org.

Students: Celebrate the year with us on Wednesday

We’re thankful for all the ways we’ve seen God at work in our students’ lives this ministry year, and this Wednesday, May 13, we’ll celebrate all of these things! We’ll have time to connect in small groups, worship, and pray for our eighth graders and seniors as they enter a new phase of life soon. Since this is our last Wednesday night of the ministry year, your students definitely won’t want to miss it! We’ll be meeting at our regular times: middle school 6-8 pm, high school 7-9 pm.

Looking to jump in?
Our Connections Ministry offers volunteers the chance to help make our weekends happen through greeting, ushering, safety and security, concierge, or Acorn Cafe. If you have about 1 hour a month to spare and enjoy welcoming people and helping point them in the right direction, Connections may be a great place for you to serve. You can serve with friends or family, too. Email Beth Harmening to get more info.

Serve a refugee family with your church family
In partnership with Arrive Ministries, our church is starting a new Good Neighbor team to serve a refugee family in St Paul.  We have a solid core team already, but we could really use more hands and resources to help complete the team. Refugees in our neighborhoods are still under intense pressure and are feeling very isolated. We can change that for one family. Will you help? Please email John Johnson (johnjohnson9530@gmail.com) or Dave Baar (dbaar@fiveoakschurch.org) to get more information.
