Weekend of August 8+9

Find your path to serve

Did you know we fill over 200 volunteer spots each week to keep everything running smoothly? It’s through the dedication and hard work of our amazing community that we can connect people with God and one another. Whether you’re not currently serving, serving annually, or serving monthly, we invite you to join us at our Serve Rally. This event is designed to help you find your perfect niche in serving. Each ministry will have a table showcasing available roles and their job descriptions, making it easy for you to explore how you can contribute to God’s work. The Serve Rally will take place between services this weekend. Stop by the tables in the commons after services to start exploring ways you can use your gifts to serve our community! Questions? Email Levi Case, lcase@fiveoakschurch.org.

See you on the island next weekend! (not Five Oaks!)

Reminder that our annual outdoor baptism service is next Sunday, August 16 at 10 am on the island at the University of Northwestern. We’ll celebrate life change through baptism, worship together, then stay for treats, lemonade, and swim time. Please register everyone attending so we can plan refreshments. Please register all your people here. Note: Our outdoor baptism service is the only service August 15+16.

A great step for new sixth graders
The first day feels a little easier when you already recognize a few friendly faces. Incoming sixth graders are invited to our final two youth group gatherings of the summer. Join us from 6:30-8:30 on Wednesday, August 12, for games and time to connect, and on Wednesday, August 19, for  a worship night. These events will help the fall youth group kickoff (on September 16) go more smoothly. Invite a friend who’s entering sixth grade, too! Questions? Email Kyler Albert.

Growing kids starts with great leaders
Every weekend is a chance to shape a child’s faith, and sometimes that means navigating busy classrooms and big personalities. Whether you’re already serving in Five Oaks Kids or considering joining the team, this training will give you practical tools. Join us Saturday, August 22, 12–1:30 pm, for our Kids Volunteer Training & Appreciation Event, featuring a professional educator sharing effective classroom management strategies. Details and registration are here.

Know a family who is fostering or adopting?
Our FAM (Foster & Adopt Ministry) Freezer has been serving families since April—and thanks to your generosity, it’s well stocked! Now we need your help reaching the foster and adoptive families, in our community, who could benefit. They may be your neighbors! Help us spread the word so these families can receive practical support as they care for children who have experienced trauma. To share a referral, email Maggie & Michael Butler, mbutler1@fiveoakschurch.org.

Bringing Sunday into Monday

Living out our faith at work isn’t always easy. Whether you're looking for opportunities to share your faith, encourage a co-worker, or simply worship Jesus through your everyday work, you’re not alone. We want to be a church that understands the opportunities and challenges we all face in our everyday work so we can equip each other for the places God has already called us. Watch for a short survey from us in your email on August 9 at 5 pm. (Or, take it now by clicking here.) It takes just a few minutes, and because we'll check in again down the road, we'll ask for your name and email. Your responses will help us better understand the challenges you face and equip our church to live out our faith every day. Questions? Email Levi Case, lcase@fiveoakschurch.org.

Be the first friendly face they meet

Starting life in a new country can be exciting—and overwhelming. This fall, you can help international students feel welcomed and cared for through the Hospitality Center at the University of Minnesota and Concordia University. Serve by helping at the Welcome Picnic, hosting a student who is waiting for housing (1–7 days), or providing an airport pickup. Simple acts of hospitality make the biggest difference. Questions? Email Dave Baar.

Story of God classes start in September

Ever wondered how the whole Bible fits together? The Story of God class walks you through Scripture's big picture—from creation to new creation—in a way that's approachable for anyone, whether you're just exploring faith or have followed Jesus for years. Over eight weekly sessions of about an hour each, you'll discover the one story God has been telling all along. Fall classes begin in September—we'd love to have you join us. Find a class and register here. Email Danny Martin, dmartin@fiveoakschurch.org, with questions.
